Resource Person Dr. Maria Gia G. Gamolo, University Librarian of FEU Manila tackled “Saying I am in-charge: what it means to be an effective library manager/leader” during the Seminar-Workshop themed on “HIP for HIP: High Impact Practices for Holistic Information Professionals” held last November 9, 2018 at The Pearl Manila Hotel, United Nations Avenue, Taft Avenue, Manila. The seminar-workshop was hosted by Quezon City Library Consortium or QCLC.

Among all other topics in the HIP for HIP seminar this one really caught my interest, said MC library cataloging specialist Ms. Cheska Tamayo. It is indeed a beautiful subject to begin with. Almost all experts in various field, especially who are in the academe are experiencing difficulty in terms of managing and leading an organization. This issue has long been struggled ever since then until now. I, myself, experienced such hardship in overseeing people and managing the library. I came to a realization that “being a leader was never an easy thing.” It entails a lot of traits that an individual must develop and maintain all throughout his/her journey.
Dr. Gamolo being the resource speaker was able to explain well the meaning of leadership. She was able to share and connect her experiences in managing a library. Being a librarian and a leader, she knew how to deal with numerous problems concerning the library. She highly believed that even though you are recognized as a “leader” does not necessarily mean that everything will be under your control rather, a leader must be the person who knows how to equate things, practice fair judgment at all times, influences colleagues in a positive sense and do not think highly of oneself.

The lecture was really informative and helpful. It gave me the inspiration to work even harder towards achieving my goals.
